Major League Baseball spring training has been an important part of our community's fabric for over 60 years - ever since the Cleveland Indians began training in Tucson, Arizona in 1947.
The Colorado Rockies replaced the Indians at Hi Corbett field in 1993 and in 1998 the Chicago White Sox and Arizona Diamondbacks began training in the newly constructed Tucson Electric Park.
Because the Spring Training contracts of all three teams are interrelated, the announcement by the Chicago White Sox of their intention to relocate their program to Glendale, Arizona has opened the door for the Rockies and Diamondbacks to consider their options as well.
Faced with the very real possibility that our community could be without any professional baseball within five years, a group of business leaders began meeting in July of 2007 in order to draft a strategy to:
- Retain Rockies and Diamondbacks Spring Training in Tucson
- Facilitate the eventual expansion of Spring Training in Pima County
- Create an environment and structure to facilitate the expansion of professional, amateur and youth sports in Pima County.
Since July the group has grown to represent a diverse group of both public and private sector interests - all working together to resolve this issue. Please join our mission!
